White Dwarfs

It’s white and relatively small. What is it? It’s a white dwarf. What’s a white dwarf? Well, it's a stellar core remnant composed of electron-degenerate matter of stars less than ten times the size of the Sun. White dwarfs are really dense. How dense? One teaspoon of white dwarf matter would weigh 15 tons. White dwarfs are usually a little bigger than the Moon. Did you know that there is a white dwarf that is really expensive? A white dwarf named Lucy is 90% diamond. Lucy is about the size of the Moon. So, Lucy is over 1.8e24 dollars. This means 1.8 times 10 to the power of 24. But economically the price of diamonds would then fall, making it worth a lot less. Fun fact, there is an actual monopoly on diamonds, making them expensive. So anyway, it looks like no one is going to get even a good fraction of that amount of money anytime soon. But white dwarfs are the remnant of the smaller stars. What about the bigger ones? Besides becoming a black hole and various other things. White dwarfs are pretty cool
